Mini Breast Augmentation
PROCEDURES OF EXCELLENCE
Plastic surgeons are reporting that patients increasingly prefer smaller, lower-volume implants designed to look proportional, which the ASPS report attributes to improvements in design and technology (ASPS 2024 Procedural Statistics Report).
This information says a lot about aesthetic trends and the types of looks women are choosing today. It is common for women to ask for a mini breast augmentation, sometimes called the ballerina or petite breast augmentation. This procedure offers subtle volume and proportion for the right patient.
The Proportions You Choose!
A mini breast augmentation is a type of augmentation mammoplasty that uses smaller implants, usually in the range of 150 to 250 cc, or a modest fat transfer for subtle enhancement. The technique is similar to a standard augmentation, but the patient’s goals are often different. The focus is on the shape and balance of the breasts.
This procedure may be a good fit for you if you want a slightly fuller figure with breasts that still feel like your own. A petite breast augmentation can give you more upper-pole fullness and modestly increase your cup size for a silhouette that is symmetrical and proportional to the rest of your anatomy.

Why Do We Choose Mini Breast Augmentation?
There are several reasons why a smaller-volume approach may make more sense in your situation. Petite-framed women may not be able to accommodate a larger implant without looking out of balance. Active women, including runners, climbers, dancers and lifters may want additional fullness without a heavier implant impeding their training.
If you want to restore your body to how it looked before pregnancy, more volume may not be the answer. Often, pregnancy and breastfeeding can lead to a more deflated look, even if there hasn’t been an actual decrease in breast volume. In this situation, it may suit your proportions better and restore your shape more effectively to have small implants. Of course, the choice is up to you!

The Nodwell Experience
Subtle Proportions
A mini breast augmentation may look straightforward on paper, but there is an artistry to it that takes experience and a good eye to do right. Every choice I make is important, from the material to the location of the implant.
Precision is one of the parts of plastic surgery that I have always loved, and it is why I spend so much time talking to my patients before operating on them. If I had a “surgeon superpower,” it would be the ability to translate complicated surgical ideas into language that makes sense and enables you to make a good decision. My years of microsurgery and advanced breast training at the University of British Columbia allow me to create a result that feels like it has always belonged to you.

Am I a Candidate for Mini Breast Augmentation?
The best candidates for this procedure tend to already know what they want. They don’t want a dramatic change, just a little more volume. As a candidate for the surgery, you should also know what to expect from your results and should not be planning future pregnancies. The best way to determine candidacy for any surgery is a personal consultation with Dr. Nodwell.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a Mini Breast Augmentation Affect Breastfeeding?
Most patients can breastfeed after a mini augmentation. Some women experience temporary changes in nipple sensation that resolve within months. If you are planning future pregnancies, this is worth raising at your consultation, as future pregnancies may impact your results.
Will I Have Scars After a Mini Breast Augmentation?
Yes, you will have scars in the fold beneath your breasts. However, these scars are well-concealed, and they fade over time. Smaller implants also require shorter incisions than standard augmentations.
Will My Results Look Natural?
The volume range, the implant profile, and Dr. Nodwell's pocket techniques are all chosen to keep the result natural-looking. Most patients report that close friends notice something has changed without being able to identify exactly what. Clothes fit better, the silhouette is a little fuller, and the breast itself moves and feels like breast tissue.
Can I Go Bigger Later if I Change My Mind?
Future revisions are possible if you decide you want to change the size of your implants. Modern implants can last for many years, so you can enjoy your results indefinitely unless you decide to change your look. Dr. Nodwell will discuss long-term planning at your consultation if flexibility matters to you.
