Liposuction For Men
PROCEDURES OF EXCELLENCE
Body contouring is experiencing a boom that transcends gender, and the numbers prove it. Liposuction consistently ranks as the #1 surgical procedure among men, with over 24,000 procedures performed in 2023 alone, according to a report by The Aesthetic Society.
If you struggle with stubborn fat that seems to completely resist your dieting and exercise efforts, you’re not alone. More men than ever are choosing to do something about it with the help of liposuction surgery by Dr. Trefor Nodwell.
The Body You Choose!
Male liposuction is a surgical body contouring procedure that permanently removes diet-resistant fat deposits from targeted areas of the body. Several techniques are used to facilitate the breaking up and removal of targeted fat cells. Dr. Nodwell employs a power-assisted liposuction (PAL) technique, which uses a vibrating cannula to gently break apart and extract fat cells with exceptional precision.
Men generally carry denser, more fibrous subcutaneous fat (especially in the abdominal region), which is precisely where the mechanical advantage of power-assisted technology makes the greatest difference. Commonly treated areas for male liposuction include the abdomen, flanks, chest, back and neck.

Why Do Ottawa Men Choose Liposuction?
While each case varies according to a number of external factors, male fat distribution still follows a fairly well-defined blueprint. Testosterone influences where, when and how much fat is deposited. As this key sex hormone gradually declines with age, the male body stores fat in the abdomen and chest, which often responds poorly to exercise and diet. The fat cells in these areas are metabolically stubborn. Though they can shrink, much of the added fat remains in these areas, no matter how diligent your efforts are.
Liposuction breaks this invisible barrier by permanently removing these fat cells. Once they’re gone, they cannot regenerate. As long as you maintain a stable weight after the procedure, the newly contoured area will remain that way for years to come.

What Does Male Liposuction Treat?
Abdomen
The lower abdomen is the most requested treatment site for men. Fat here accumulates in multiple tissue depths, and even men with low overall body fat often struggle with stubborn abdominal fat.
Flanks (Love Handles)
Addressing both the front and back regions of the flank or love handle area produces the V-shaped torso that many men seek.
Male Chest (Pseudogynecomastia)
Excess fatty tissue in the chest that creates the appearance of breast development, so long as this concern is due to fat accumulation and not glandular or hormonal causes, is effectively treated with liposuction.
Back and Flanks
Upper, mid, and lower back rolls affect how clothing fits and how the torso reads in profile. Contouring this region complements abdominal work and produces a more comprehensive result.
Neck and Chin
Fat in these areas softens the jawline and creates the appearance of a double chin, which minimally invasive liposuction can address with a high degree of precision.
How Does Power-Assisted Liposuction Work?
In this approach, Dr. Nodwell uses a specialized tube, or cannula, that oscillates at a high frequency to precisely disrupt the targeted fat cells at a cellular level before they are removed. This is considerably more efficient and accurate than manually breaking apart the fat cells, meaning the results are more consistent.
The cannula accesses the treatment area through very small and strategically placed incisions (typically just a few millimeters in length). The cannula moves through the fat layer in controlled, deliberate passes, with the mechanical vibration continuously disrupting the fat cells ahead of the tip. Negative pressure applied through the cannula draws the emulsified fat out simultaneously.
Once the fat has been removed and Dr. Nodwell is satisfied with the contour from every angle, the incisions are closed and compression garments are applied before you leave the operating room.
The Nodwell Experience
Men's Body Contouring Excellence
When a man comes to me about liposuction, the conversation rarely starts with the procedure itself. It starts with what has changed, why it’s a problem, and what the solution looks like. Then, once we’re aligned on the same vision, I begin developing a surgical plan around his anatomy and fat distribution.
My fellowship training in aesthetic plastic surgery gave me the technical foundation to approach contouring with the kind of precision that men want. The technology we use allows me to work with a level of control that traditional liposuction simply cannot match, particularly with the denser and more fibrous tissue that men typically have.
My goal is always a result that looks like the body you were going to have anyway, just without the obstacles that stood in the way.

The Nodwell Experience

Am I a Candidate for Male Liposuction?
The ideal candidate for male liposuction is a man who is close to his target weight (within 10 to 20 pounds) and has specific, localized areas of fat that have resisted a sustained diet and exercise regimen. Liposuction is a contouring procedure, and though it can help refine your contour after dramatic weight loss, it is not a weight loss tool in itself. The men who see the most satisfying results are those who approach it with that understanding clearly in mind.
Equally important is having realistic and clearly articulated expectations. Liposuction produces real, visible, permanent changes to body contour. What it does not do is replicate the results of dramatic weight loss, eliminate loose skin, or improve cellulite.

Are within a healthy, stable weight range and not planning significant weight changes
Have specific, localized fat deposits that have not responded to diet and exercise
Have reasonable skin elasticity in the areas you wish to treat
Are a non-smoker, or are prepared to stop smoking before and after surgery
Are in good general health with no contraindicated medical conditions
Can Liposuction Be Paired With Other Treatments?
Liposuction + Tummy Tuck
For men whose abdominal issues include both stubborn fat deposits and loose skin, combining liposuction with an abdominoplasty addresses both elements at once. The tummy tuck tightens the underlying muscle and removes excess skin, while liposuction refines the surrounding contours for a seamless result.
Liposuction + Neck Lift or Facelift
Liposuction is frequently paired with neck lift or lower facelift procedures in men seeking a sharper, more youthful facial profile. Removing the fat beneath the chin restores jawline definition, while soft tissue repositioning addresses the skin laxity that typically accompanies it. The combination produces a far more cohesive facial rejuvenation than either procedure achieves independently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Male Liposuction Different From Female Liposuction?
The core surgical technique is the same, but the anatomical considerations and aesthetic goals differ in significant ways. As mentioned, men tend to carry denser, more fibrous fat, which is why power-assisted technology is especially well-suited to male patients. The mechanical vibration of the cannula breaks apart this denser tissue more effectively than manual techniques.
How Much Does Male Liposuction Cost in Ottowa?
The cost of liposuction at Nodwell Plastic Surgery varies according to the number and size of treatment areas. Your final investment will depend on the number of areas treated, the volume of fat being addressed, and whether any complementary procedures are included in the surgical plan. We offer financing options through trusted third-party providers to help make your goals achievable with a monthly payment plan.
Will Liposuction Results Be Permanent?
The fat cells removed during liposuction can’t regenerate, making your results permanent in the treated areas. However, the fat cells that remain throughout your body can still expand with significant weight gain, so maintaining a stable, healthy lifestyle after surgery is needed to preserve your long-term results.
How Long Does Liposuction Recovery Take?
Most patients return to light desk work within five to seven days. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for four to six weeks as the treated areas heal and swelling resolves. Compression garments are typically worn for several weeks following surgery. Full results take approximately three to six months to emerge as residual swelling completely subsides.
Can Liposuction Address Gynecomastia?
Liposuction can effectively treat pseudogynecomastia, which refers to chest enlargement caused by excess fat accumulation. However, liposuction is not an effective treatment for true gynecomastia, which involves firm, glandular breast tissue that requires an entirely different method of removal.
What Should I Expect From Liposuction Recovery?
Recovery from male liposuction follows a predictable pattern, though the exact timeline depends on the number of areas treated and the volume of fat removed. Having clear expectations of what will happen at each stage helps you plan your downtime and set realistic timelines for when your results will fully emerge.
Dr. Nodwell schedules regular checkups to monitor your progress and ensure your recovery stays on track. Our team provides comprehensive support throughout your healing journey, helping you achieve the best possible outcome from your procedure.
