Facelift for Men
PROCEDURES OF EXCELLENCE
When your unique aging pattern results in changes to your skin quality, jawline contour and overall appearance that affect your confidence, a facelift by Dr. Trefor Nodwell offers a highly effective, long-term solution. According to an analysis published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of facelift procedures performed for men increased by 19% from 2004 to 2021, alongside other facial procedures like fillers and Botox. With this continued growth in interest comes greater attention to techniques and refinements that suit male patients, and Trefor Nodwell is among the group of surgeons leading this movement.
The Results You Choose
A full facelift, or rhytidectomy, is the gold standard in facial rejuvenation surgery. In this procedure, underlying tissues are repositioned or removed with a high degree of precision, restoring lost volume and creating a cohesive aesthetic that harmonizes with your features.
Men choose facelifts as a way to dramatically improve the full range of facial aging concerns they may have in one procedure, including skin laxity, hollowing and softened jawline contours. By addressing all of these issues at the same time, men can achieve long-lasting and well-balanced results that last for years.

Why Do Men in Ottawa Choose Facelifts?
Though they often manifest in different ways, most aging-related concerns that affect women also affect men, including sagging skin around the jawline (jowls), deepening wrinkles in several regions of the face, excess skin around the neck, a tired or hollow midface area, and more. With age, collagen production naturally declines, and the skin becomes thinner, drier and more fragile. How, when and where these problems present themselves is unique to each person, but every man eventually deals with signs of facial aging.
More men than ever before, in the Ottawa area and beyond, are turning to facelift procedures as a way to improve their professional appearance and confidence. Men tend to prefer subtler results that lend a more masculine appearance to the jawline and a refreshed, alert look to the midface. Dr. Trefor Nodwell tailors every procedure around your specific preferences and goals.

The Nodwell Experience
Male Facelift Excellence
The face is unlike any other part of the body when it comes to expressiveness, uniqueness and how it impacts how others perceive you. This is why I take so much care in interviewing each patient before deciding on a facelift approach. Your results need to speak not to a generic template, but to the message you want to convey to the world around you and to yourself.
Every facelift I perform starts with a complete assessment of your skin and your concerns, along with an open conversation about your options. Every man comes to my office with an image of their desired results in mind; my job is to join you in that vision and deliver those results.
My fellowship training in microsurgery at the University of British Columbia and my aesthetic surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto taught me the many subtleties of facial plastic surgery, where every tiny decision affects your overall aesthetic. When you choose me as your surgeon, we become co-captains working together to deliver results you will be deeply proud of.

The Nodwell Experience

Am I a Candidate for a Facelift?
Your candidacy for a facelift is based on a set of individualized factors, and a consultation with Dr. Nodwell is the most reliable way to assess whether surgery is the right path for you. That said, there are characteristics that consistently define strong candidates.
The ideal candidate is generally a man in good overall health, a non-smoker (or a smoker willing to quit well in advance of the procedure) and someone whose weight has been stable for at least six to 12 months. Realistic expectations, paired with a genuine desire for personal improvement rather than external pressure, make for the most satisfied patients.
There is no "right age" for a facelift. Men in their 40s with early jowling and those in their 60s seeking more comprehensive restoration can both be excellent candidates, depending on their skin quality, bone structure, and degree of facial aging.

Are in good general health with no conditions that significantly increase surgical risk
Have visible facial laxity (jowling, neck banding, sagging midface) that bothers you
Maintain a stable weight and lead a reasonably healthy lifestyle
Are a non-smoker, or willing to abstain for the required period before and after surgery
Hold realistic expectations and are motivated by your own goals
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Facelift Different for Men Than It Is for Women?
Yes, and even the smaller differences affect success, approach, longevity of results and more. For example, male facial anatomy is structurally distinct: men have thicker skin, stronger underlying musculature, more prominent bony architecture, and a different hairline configuration that directly influences incision placement. Dr. Nodwell's aesthetic fellowship training and years of specialized facial surgery experience equip him to navigate these nuances with precision.
How Much Does a Male Facelift Cost in Ottawa?
The cost of a male facelift varies depending on the extent of the procedure, whether complementary treatments such as a neck lift or blepharoplasty are performed, anesthesia fees, and facility costs. After your consultation, you will receive a clear cost estimate.
Will People Be Able to Tell I Had Surgery?
This is one of the most common concerns men raise, and understandably so. The short answer is: not if the surgery is done well. Dr. Nodwell's approach dynamically maps how your facial musculature behaves during your normal movements and expressions, allowing for a completely natural result.
How Should I Prepare for Facelift Surgery?
Dr. Nodwell will provide you with a pre-operative instruction list at your consultation, which may include adjustments to current medications, discontinuing blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, or aspirin, and ceasing smoking for a minimum of four to six weeks prior to surgery. Arrange for a trusted person to drive you home following surgery and to stay with you for at least the first 24 to 48 hours.
What Should I Expect During Recovery?
Recovery from a male facelift follows a predictable pattern, and knowing what to expect at each stage goes a long way toward keeping your anxiety in check.
